Oaks has surrounded his life around art. Not as a profession, but as a passion. He was the gallery director and lesser of three evils of Universe City Art Gallery in Ogden Utah for 8 years where he would often wake to the sounds of high school students practicing mariachi music. Currently he resides in Phoenix Arizona.
His work has been presented at events such as Burning Man, Saguaro Man, Telluride Fire Festival, SNRG, Full Moon Festival, and various art festivals around Phoenix and Arizona.
I am a sculptor who uses found wood and reclaimed pallets for my large scale pieces and furniture. A portion of all sales and commissions for art are donated to our non-profit called Potty Project International. This organization aims to build latrines and support clean water projects in Uganda. Using found and reclaimed wood not only helps with protecting our environment but also lowers my material costs so that more money can be spent on building latrines for communities that lack basic sanitation.
I have been a Burning Man artist since 2011. The massive pieces at Burning Man have inspired me to dig down deep and find my own creative voice over the years. Seeing such crazy expressions out in the middle of the desert year after year has an effect on my own craziness and has taught me to express my own insanity in the pieces that I create. It has also placed a sense of making this world a better place through my art.
A good friend of mine who I considered a mentor once said "All people deserve great Art, great Art of yesterday, today and tomorrow. Art is the human dynamic that allows us to sensitively evaluate and act within our life on this planet. It adheres us to one another over both positive and negative ideas. We become better human beings by absorbing the content of Art. and that, we pass on to our progeny, our tribe and all others. Art has always been and always will be the base expression of humankind. And humankind and the planet are the ultimate benefactors.
